According to various reports and rankings, India does have a significant issue with violence and crime against women.
The 2021 Global Women’s Safety Index (GWSI) by the UK-based property website, GetSafe, ranked India as the most hazardous country for women. However, there are other ranking by other sources, as of the cut off date of my knowledge which shows different countries ranking in the “most dangerous” category.
For example, the 2021 Global Peace Index (GPI) by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) ranked India as the 135th safest country out of 163.
However, India has faced criticism for its handling of reported crimes against women, particularly in the wake of high-profile cases such as the 2012 Delhi gang rape, which led to widespread outrage and calls for reform.
Some of the key statistics and concerns regarding safety for women in India include:
* **Sexual Violence**: India has one of the highest rates of rape in the world, with a reported 32,033 cases in 2020, according to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).

* **Human Trafficking**: India is a major source, transit, and destination country for human trafficking, with a significant number of women and girls being trafficked for forced labor, sex work, and other forms of exploitation.
